Expedition - Keswick
The expedition was part of the Erasmus Plus meeting of the project Plugging into Nature with New Technologies that was held on 15 -19 October 2018 in Cockermouth, one of the participating schools.
The Wednesday 16th October at 9 a.m. we started off by coach from the town of Cockermouth. Five Czech students and two teachers from Gymnazium Vysoke Myto participated in the expedition.
After coming to the tourist resort of Keswick, we started our hike. First we went to the lake and observed the wildlife there - mostly birds and some of them ( swans and ducks) very friendly and used to being fed by the tourists.
After that we got on the small boat and enjoyed a short journey watching some more wildlife on the lake. When we got off, the real hike started. We walked along a path around the lake and stopped sometimes to take a photo of mushrooms, trees and plant in flower which were not many due to the late season. You can see the photos together with the determinations below.
Later we uploaded the photos on www.inaturalist.org which also was the basic determination tool for us.
Because of a drizzle, we could not go on the second hike that was planned which was climbing up the second highest mountain in Britain, the peak of Skiddaw. However, we got a permission from some tourists ( who climbed it on the next day in beautiful weather) to use their photos and we include them here too.
The whole expedition was a great experience and an opportunity to find out about the wildlife in this region in this season.
