LECTURES / EXPERTS

Meeting experts, listening to their lectures, interviews and discussions with them are an integral part of each of the project meetings and the meeting in Vysoké Mýto was no exception.

On Monday 16/4/2018 the team of students and accompanying teachers visited the National Museum Prague and during a professionally guided tour they were lectured about the biodiversity and species sustainability by the museum librarian and scientist. The exhibition called Noah´s Arc served as the starting point for the lecture "Hunters, Conservationists and Museum People".

On Thursday 19/4/2018 the participants of the meeting and students of the higher classes og Gymnázium Vysoké Mýto gathered in the school auditorium so as to listen to the lecture of Ing. Jaroslav Filip, Ph.D.,  from Tomas Bata University in teh town of Zlín. The topic of the lecture  was "Research case study - electrical "wiring" of an enzyme to graphene nanoparticles" and the lecturer explained about the  characteristics of the scientific problem from the initial idea to the publications. The listeners also learnt how to manage collected data and after the lecture they had a chance to interview the scientist.

On Friday 20/4/2018 a team of experts from the University in Brno arrived at the Gymnázium Vysoké Mýto so as to introduce their own determination application FlowerChecker. The participants not only listened to the lecture but also were given passwords and could try out the app on their own when identifying some flowers in tne nearby park. This activity turned out to be useful and contributing for both the scientists and the students as it was an opportunity to find out how this application can be improved.

The principle on which this application works:

Use the application to capture a flower. This will immediately show to the botanists who will determine it for you. The answer is displayed directly on your phone when it's paid. Identification is not based on artificial intelligence but on the knowledge and experience of meat and bone experts.

This short video also shows how this application works.

On Thursday morning (19/4/2018) the participants had an opportunity to try out the work of real scientists at a symposium where they introduced and explained about newly found species (their own creations :-) ).
